Maxis Prepaid Broadband

Can you live without your internet connection? Do you fell like alone and lonely when you are not online.Now you can get online whenever you want with prepaid broadband.
I am using Maxis Broadband package,with 6gb limit. One week before the expiration date,I already run out of my quota. As for me,internet is like air,no air-conditioner only,I need to have my internet connection to make me feel comfortable.
My choice is Maxis prepaid broadband package. There are two package,RM8/500mb for one day, or RM25/2gb for one week. I always go for 1 week package as seem cheaper to me..is it?
The connection speed is same like the postpaid one,you can achieve up to 300kb per second download.Not like Celcom prepaid,which for prepaid version only up to...384/8=48kb if I'm not mistaken. I don't have other choice here,only Maxis and Celcom broadband. But I am thankful enough as I can get HSPDA coverage for both of it here.:D

To install debian package with .deb format,you can install it by using this command
sudo dpkg -i package_name

Then to uninstall the package,you can type this command
sudo dpkg -r package_name

VLC Media Player

Always having problem to open video file? With VLC media player,that wont happen again.

VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg ) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. Everything that is needed to play variety of format is just this player. No more codec download,just play it with this player. VLC player is capable of playing the incomplete file. For some incomplete part, VLC will skip that part and continue playing.

The interface is just simple. No library or playlist. Just open the file and play it This should be enough as what more important is the quality of the video. The other function that come with VLC is subtitle,zooming and another standard function.

This software can be downloaded for free. It is developed under OpenSource project.

Internet Movie Database

Do you like to download movie?It is my favorite too.But most of the times, we become clueless and did not know what to download.

This is what I do,normally I will search up the movie by using torrent. Normally, the one I like to choose is video uploaded by AXXO because most of the time,the quality is good.
An advice from me,be careful when picking torrent,you do not want your computer to be effected by virus.

To download torrent file,I use flashget. It is very useful as it not only can use with torrent,but it is also a download manager.For those who didn't have any download manager yet,I recommend that you install one.

To get the information about the movie, you can go to www.imdb.com. They have plenty of information about the movie. It is good as you get people comments before downloading one. It should save us some time.

They also have some content advisory for parent. This would come a great help when you are picking movie to watch with the whole family.

iTunes

Tired of Windows Media Player gloomy looks.Maybe you should try something else to improve your Desktop.
I am using iTunes as my media player. It is from Apple Macintosh and quite well design. I already use it for some time now and very happy with it.Actually this iTunes is application that is needed to transfer song from PC to iPod. But because of the design it became famous.
The features that I like most in iTunes is using it album cover to select the songs. It look like very classic to me.It is also come in small version,iTunes mini,mimic iPod shuffle actually.It save your screen space.

Some says that the sound quality is also better within iTunes. I don't know bout that as I am not an artist.2-d or 3-d sound alike to me.

But iTunes only can play mp3 and mp4 only.It cannot play video,so it's quite a waste.Then i didn't have any other comments.

I am an anime lover. I like to watch anime and always keep up to date with it. Most of the time, my friend will download it and we watch it together. But lately,when I moved to a new place I didnt have anybody that download the movie/manga for me,so I need to download bu my self.

Safari Web Browser

Ever head of Safari? No I'm not talking about the animal park. It's an web browser from Macintosh.Yes,from Macintosh, an elegant and claimed to be as the fastest browser. Well, I have no argument about that,maybe it s better if let you try and judge for yourself.

Well,for my opinion it has a nice look,like almost all Apple product do.Simple and nice actually but I like it.The toolbar button is arranged nicely in the upper part of the browser. The bookmark also displayed on the top of the page,for quick navigation.

They claimed that "Safari loads pages up to 1.9 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and up to 1.7 times faster than Firefox 2. And it executes JavaScript up to 6 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and up to 4 times faster than Firefox 2",maybe that is quite true as I also feel quite faster browsing using Safari,but it still depend on your internet speed,so don't blame the browser if you are using dial up.

Other interesting functions come with this browser is tabbed function,scalable textbox size, enhance image quality and private browsing.

OpenOffice

Are you one of those anti-Microsoft people who is complaining about its high-price products. If you are,then you should have this product,OpenOffice as a replacement for Ms Office,it free and come for a lot of functionaries .It also available for every platform-Windows,Macintosh or Linux.

OpenOffice is an Open Source project where people contribute their opinion,skill and time to create this project. For me, if you want to really learn about programming, especially using Java,C++ and C,you should also join openSource program as you can learn a lot of thing from it,and there are a lot of expert there who can guide you(not including me yet).
OpenOffice comes in bundle,same like Ms Office,based on their functionalities. From my opinion,it is almost very complete and should be a big competitor for Ms Office one day. Maybe because it is free,then the time is closer.For the student,it also a good alternative to you all,and you can save a lot of your loan or parent money.Prevent using pirate product,use original and free product. :p

Ms Virtual PC

MS Virtual PC is as it name described,is a virtual PC provided by Microsoft. It is very useful software especially for testing and experimenting. Let say you had just finish developing an application and want to test it on the clean machine,or you want to try using Linux and don't want to give up your Windows,using a virtual PC is a good way.
Virtual PC is like you are having another PC. You can install anything and experimenting without affecting your PC. It also have reset function so that you can delete the change you have made and go back to previous save state. It save time when you re doing testing as you can return back to the point before the data is tested and more accurate result.
For now, I m using Virtual PC to run Linux Fedora 8.Of course it is slower if we run inside it,but I think it still worth it as you can change back to your Windows every time your want. I am developing an application in Linux but normally I change back to Windows when I surf for information.
As for the networking side,in Windows, I m not having trouble to connect to my local area network.Thanks for Microsoft Windows add-on(of course because they all are from Microsoft).For Linux, I am still looking on how to do it,furthermore I m quite new to Linux,if you know how to do it,please let me know.Really thankful about it.

Index.dat anaylzer

Index.dat is the a file that is use by internet explorer to store the information about the page that you explored. The content of this file is not deleted even though you always clearing the cookies.
This data is cannot be delete using simple way as it is always opened by internet explorer during the start up.

To create the add-on that would able to suggest site to the user,first of all, the system itself must know what are the sites that the user always visits. This can be done by using index.dat. But it is not in the plain text, it is encoded to protect the privacy.
There is a few application that would read the index.dat.

Index.dat analyzer.
Index.dat analyzer is a freeware application that would view the history of your internet browsing. You can also select and delete the history of your cookies.So you can delete the unsuitable content from your browsing history.
Apart from that, index,dat analyzer has a function that let you save the cookies into the text file.
Maybe for analysis reason or whatever.

Add-on for Internet Browser

Add-on is an additional feature that we add into something. For example, to get suggestion about the relevant side,you can install Yoono add-on into your Mozilla. This add-on help increase usability of your application. If you're a gamers,you can imagine add-on as extension for your game.

OK..this is a scenario..I was asked by my friend to create add-on into the internet browser(not decided yet what it is). The feature is this add-on will automatically create the favourite menu based on the frequency of the visit of the website.

To get the visit frequency,he suggest the data is read from the index.dat(for the ie) and cookies.txt (for mozilla),but i am quite disagree as this data should be private and it is encrypted (even though there's a lot of freeware that would be able to extract).But as I also dont have any other idea,so I just follow the orders.If you have any idea or suggestion, you can submit to me trhrough the commment.Thanks!

Before proceed to development phase,I need to choose which platform should I develop it to. After browsing for resource, there's a lot more resource for Mozilla compared to IE.I could not even find a development page for add-on for IE!.As for that, I think Mozilla is the winner.

Before we could proceed,maybe we should see a few similar application that would help us to understand more about this add-on.

There are a few interesting features inside FlashGet. FlashGet also can act as Download Accelorator,it may boost you download speed compared to direct download.You can also resume unfinished download if you download was interrupt.This is quite useful especially when you are using unstable broadband connection.
If you worried about the virus from the downloaded files,you may implement a virus scanning on the file automatically by attaching a virus scanner with the FlashGet.

Add-On.
There is an add-on that is quite nice. FlashCheck is an application that allow you to direct the FlashGet to download any file by using email. You can send email to your PC at home to download anything when you are in office and then when you back home all ready for you. Is'nt it nice.It also could do another things.You may get it here.

If you are using mozilla,you can install FlashGot to implement FlashGet into your mozilla. This mozilla add-on will set FlashGet as a default downloader and you can right click on link and select FlashGot for downloading process.You may get the info here.

Picasa Photo Album

Picasa is a free photo organizer from Google.It is very useful when you have a lot of pictures inside your computer.
First of all,you can search all the image file inside your computer. It then will be displayed inside a windows. You can then browse it and view your file.

Instead of good browser,you can also edit your image by using Picasa.Picasa image editor is easy to use and even an amateur can use it. The red-eye eliminator just need you to select the area where red-eye happen. The others button is just auto,and the result is quite fine.
After finished touch-up the photo,now you can choose whether you want to store the image in the Picasa Web Album online,so that you can access it anytime or send it through email.This can be done by simply click the button below it.
Well,there's something that really interest me in Picasa.You can try to click on the Collage button, and the result a bundle of your photo inside an image.Its like taking photo of your photo.
This Picasa album is part of Google Pack,you can download it from the icon at the sidebar.

Instead of just using Internet Explorer.Why dont you try this Mozilla Firefox internet Browser.
Firefox is a free software,so that means it can be installed in your PC for free. The performace is very good and it is very easy to use. It support multiple tabs,so , you can view a few pages without opening a new windows.
Apart from these, FireFox also come with customized add-on. If you're interested with these add-on,you can get it here.There are a few add-ons that I like to use.This add-on ease a lot your work when browsing the internet.There are tones more add-ons available for you,but,I only describe two of them.
